About the Project Developer

SACREEE is a centre that is operated by SADC, the Southern African Development Community. SACREEE stands for SADC Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency. As such, SACREEE focuses on bringing about the so-called “Energiewende”, a word borrowed from German that roughly translates to energy revolution. This Energiewende is all about breaking the hold that fossil fuels have over humanity and rather use renewable energies such as solar power and green hydrogen to supply humankind with energy.

At the SACREEE Conference held in may 2019, iDEALX worked as the Team Leader/ Lead Expert in the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) division for Stantec, a Belgium based constulting firm.
SE4ALL aims to create equitable energy availability, so that even poorest households can affor to source clean energy through divers mechanisms. SE4ALL is a programme by the European Union Commission.

Outcome and Impact

  • SACREEE and the SE4ALL division aim to provide clean, efficient and reliable energy to most households in Southern Africa. As such, the project outcome is to overall reduce carbon emissions in those countries as well as kickstart an energy revolution that might bring about an industrial revolution to lift these countries out of poverty and to the state of a developed nation, rather than a developing one.
  • The energy sector in Southern Africa has great potential and is expected to create many new, local jobs that further help to alleviate poverty, homelessness, and unemployment.
