About the Project Developer

DAI International is committed to the development and the structuring of international business. They have made it one of their goals to develop trade in Southern Africa. 

The UK FDCO is the Foreign Development and Commonwealth Office, an institution of the British government. As the name suggests, this institution’s goal is growth and development, in the commonwealth countries, especially economically.

Project Timeline

August 2021 – March 2023

The Trade Forward Southern Africa programme focuses on developing export trade in Southern Africa, especially regionally, i.e. within the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) and Mozambique. TFSA is committed to boosting export ready and nearly export ready businesses in Namibia.

In the natural ingredients and cosmetics sectors, TFSA worked with the following institutions:
Botswana – Natural Products Association of Botswana (NPAB)
Lesotho – Lesotho National Development Corporation (LNDC)
Namibia – Namibia Network of the Cosmetics industry (NANCi) and Namibia Standards Institute (NSI)
South Africa – Cosmetics Export Council of South Africa (CECOSA)

Outcome and Impact

  • The project boosts trade and economic growth and reduces poverty in the SACU+M region, that is to say in South Africa, Namibia, eSwatini, Mozambique, Botswana, and Lesotho.
  • Furthermore, the project is expected to increase gender equality by supporting women in business. The main activities included in the programme are: Increased access to information and trade promotion; Support in compliance with market standards and integration in supply chain/value chains; Trade and customs training and improving access; and
    Equality for women in trade.
